If you've ever searched for language learning apps to use on your smartphone, you must know Duolingo. One of the great things about this app is that it has made language learning accessible to everyone. You don't even have to speak English to use it. But the question is: Is Duolingo good? Does it work? As an English language teacher, language learning is a big part of my life, and over the years, I’ve figured out what works and what doesn’t when it comes to learning a foreign language. The best thing about Duolingo and the reason it has become so popular is that  it's free . You can install it on your smartphone and practice whenever and wherever you want. It has lots of different activities, most of them based on vocabulary and short sentences tasks, among many others. When it comes to the negative aspects, I have one major complaint: there are no explanations of grammar rules . You are just supposed to understand the rules intuitively as you go through the

TASK Nº6 - My Favorite Writer

My favorite writer of all times is Julio Cortázar. He was born in 1914 and died in 1984. He was a novelist, short story writer, and essayist. He was one of the best novel and innovative Argentina writers of the 20th century. His uniqueness lied in the fact that he combined existential questioning with experimental writing techniques in his work which was unusual and fresh. It was due to this that he majorly influenced the Spanish-speaking readers and writers settled in Europe and America. Cortázar was one of the founders of Latin America Boom and a modern master of the short story. During his lifetime, he came up with various works of poetry and drama in the category of both fiction and nonfiction. In the ’60s, he published one of my favorite books ever: ‘Rayuela’ (1963), which is an open-ended novel or ‘antinovel’ that invites the reader to rearrange the different parts of the novel according to a plan prescribed by the author. During his career, Cortázar wrote lots of short storie

Post Nº5: The Story Behind the Photograph

Since I was a little girl, I used to dream about visiting one of the most valuable living treasures in the world (according to UNESCO),  The Galápagos Islands , in Ecuador. This is why when I had the chance to plan my first trip abroad, I decided to travel there. I started to plan the trip 6 months in advance, to avoid any last-minute issues. I arrived at Santa Cruz Island, which is the second bigger island in the Galápagos after Isabela Island , and I went on an excursion to Las Tintoreras in the same afternoon. Within minutes I started to see different types of lizards, birds, crabs, little penguins, and blue-footed boobies, wandering freely around people all the time. After walking a couple of kilometers, I got to Tortuga Beach and I was able to see hundreds of marine iguanas, swimming or walking on the sand. It was a really beautiful expedition, and this is one of the photographs that captured this amazing moment.
